Flat track roller derby originally came to Lakeland in 2009, with the formation of the Lakeland Derby Dames. In 2016, the team was reformed and renamed Swan City Roller Derby (SCRD). SCRD is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, operated entirely by participating skaters. 

SCRD was formed to promote roller derby competition and the development of upcoming derby players. We encourage civic involvement in the Lakeland community, and our players both participate in local events and raise money for local charities during our games. 

SCRD is a diverse group of women who come together for athletics, competition and sisterhood. We’re some of central Florida’s fiercest teachers, lawyers, nurses and mothers working to improve our health and well-being by strapping on skates.
